Richland Center High School

Welcome to Richland Center High School! Our building opened in 1996 and was designed to reflect the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, who was born here in Richland Center. The building is surrounded by the forested hills of the Drift less Area in southwestern Wisconsin. I doubt there is a school anywhere in the state surrounded by a more beautiful setting.

Richland Center High School boasts state of the art facilities available to our students and the community. The gym seats 1800 and is host to many athletic contests and other gatherings throughout the year. A beautiful 750- seat auditorium is used for school programs, plays, concerts, dance recitals and a variety of other community events. Two open Commons areas are used for formal and informal gatherings and school dances. Our athletic complex opened in 2001 and is located just west of the building. Its 2500- seat stadium is equipped with a rubberized, all-weather track and a field designed to host both soccer and football games. Two baseball diamonds and several practice fields lie adjacent to the stadium.

Our academic program offers students a wide variety of choices, allowing students to prepare for a myriad of post-high school options. Whether you plan on entering the workforce immediately after high school, going on to a technical college or pursuing a college degree, we offer classes that will assist you in achieving your goals.

Classes in building construction, drafting, and woodworking allow students to plan and build things with their hands. Graphics, desktop publishing and video production classes enable students to be creative while learning to use state-of-the-art technology. The Agriculture department offers classes in welding, metal production technology and a host of other classes dealing with raising plants and animals for fun and for profit.

Students interested in a career in business will be sure to find many courses that catch their interest. Accounting, Business Law, Business Enterprise and marketing classes will teach students what they need to know to be successful in business. Students may also gain valuable work experience, and gain high school credit, by enrolling in the Business Work Study Program. Computers have become an important part of nearly every business. Students can learn much from software use to programming, by taking business and computer classes.

Students will also gain valuable life skills by taking classes in the Family and Consumer Education (FACE) department. Students will learn to plan meals, cook, purchase food, design clothing and furnishings, care for children and budget for personal financial stability in various classes. These are important skills, no matter what your plans for the future.

Our core academic classes offer many choices to suit student interests and abilities. While offering introductory classes in math, science, English and social studies, we also have many advanced-level classes for those that choose to challenge themselves. Students may even gain college credit while still in high school.

We are located adjacent to the UW Center-Richland campus. We have a cooperative relationship with the campus, that allows our students some unique opportunities. Academic Alliance classes allow students to take classes at Richland Center High School and gain credit at UWC-R, as well as high school credit. Calculus and Anatomy and Physiology classes at RCHS are two such classes. Students may also wish to explore the Youth Options program. Senior students are allowed to take college courses at the campus during high school hours, and may be awarded both high school and college credit for their work.

Advanced Placement (AP) classes offer students the chance to gain college credits via a test. We currently offer two AP classes, a one-semester geography class and a year-long Environmental Science class.

Our World Languages department gives students a chance to learn about foreign cultures, as well as, languages. We are happy to be able to allow students to choose German, Spanish or French. We offer students a chance to take a full four years in each of these languages. Summer trips abroad are also made available.

Students with a flair for the arts can also explore several options. Art classes from introductory to advanced are offered. Musical and theatrical productions are sponsored by our music and drama departments. Band and choir students practice and perform locally, and in other states.

If competitive athletics is something you like to watch, or participate in, we offer a wide selection of sports to watch and play. Fall sports include football and soccer for the boys, volleyball for the girls and cross-country for both genders. Girls and boys basketball and wrestling are offered in the winter. Spring sports are softball, baseball, track and field and girl’s soccer.

Richland Center High School also has many clubs and co-curricular activities that add to the enjoyment of a student’s years in high school. Among these are Key Club, National Honor Society, Yearbook, Fencing Club, Euro Club, FFA, Forensics and Student Council.

The teachers at Richland Center High School take pride in what they do, and in what their students are able to accomplish. While each teacher has his or her own style and area of expertise, they each demonstrate a deep desire to see students succeed.

We are very proud of all things we have to offer at Richland Center High School. Thanks for taking the time to explore our web site. Feel free to visit in person, if you’d like. We welcome you to spend an hour, a day or four years with us.

Sincerely,
