Grade 7

English 7 consists of several areas of study combined into one class:  grammar, writing, vocabulary, spelling, and literature.  In grammar we explore the mechanics of our language.  All eight parts of speech are presented along with such skills as capitalization and punctuation which are also used in our writing assignments.  We thoroughly study the paragraph as a unit of writing and cover topic sentences, conclusions, and manuscript form.  Vocabulary study is a part of everything we do in class.  The literature part of class introduces forms of literature.  We read short stories, biographies, a novel, dramas, poetry,  and legends.

Grades are determined through tests, daily assignments, writing assignments, class discussion and participation.

Grade 8

Literature, composition, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling are stressed in this class.  A variety of literary forms will be studied through our readings and practiced in our writings.  Which genre will become your favorite:  the short story, drama, diary, poetry,  letters, biographies, or autobiographies?  The grammar portion of the class involves learning correct word usage, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation/capitalization rules, while vocabulary and spelling units will be studied throughout the year.
