8TH GRADE SCHEDULING The eighth grade students are starting their ninth grade scheduling process. There are several steps and RMS works closely with RCHS throughout the process. First, the eighth students develop a tentative 4-year high school course plan. They should be working with parents on this project. Later, just prior to the winter vacation, RCHS teachers will be visiting RMS and meeting with the eighth graders to discuss the various electives and course progressions as well as courses recommended for certain post high school plans. In January, the actual registration packets will be distributed and the formal registration process will take place. This process should be concluded by the end of January.
8TH GRADE TESTING The eighth graders take their Wis. Knowledge and Concepts Exam. An information booklet for parents and students was given to the students 10th with instructions to take it home for parents perusal. If you haven't seen it, please ask your child. If you receive a blank stare, call Mr. Waldvogel at (608) 647-6381. |
CAREER EDUCATION Teacher: Mrs. Kanable
The eighth grade career education class is designed to prepare students for high school and beyond as well as expand their career horizons as they look to the future. The nine-weeks course contains three separate but related units. Career awareness includes the relationship between our plans, goals, life style, and career choices. Student learn about changing career options as we move to service/technology/information work force. Career investigation includes information on job satisfaction and career options as related to interest, aptitude, and educational choices. Students expand their awareness through computer career searches and other resources as they prepare their career research paper. Career planning is a look at high school and beyond. Students
develop a tentative four-year high school plan that will meet graduation
requirements and start them on a track that will allow as many options as
possible when they graduate from RCHS. Students also learn
about employer expectations of a job applicant and will experience the
process of getting a job (employment information resources, letters
of application, resumes, job applications, and interviews). The
final activity has students going through the process of securing a job
and planning a monthly budget.
