Introduction

We have already learned that energy is the ability to cause things to change. Heat is a kind of energy. Sound is a kind of energy. Light is another kind of energy. In this Webquest, you will learn some fun and interesting things about the science of light.


Task

To learn about light, you are going to create a chart which tells about: Light Basics, Controlling Light, White Light and Laser Light. You will print a chart to write down some of the information you learn about light. You will also print a rubric to give your own work a grade.

Process

1. Print a blank chart to begin your work.

2. Read all of this process before you begin working.

3. After you click on the web address, go to the section titled Light Basics. Use this information to complete Column 1 on the chart.

4. Go to the section titled Controlling Light. Use this information to complete Column 2 on the chart.

5. Go to the section titled White Light and Laser Light. Use this information to complete Column 3 on the chart.

6. Now you are ready to click on the web address above and begin completing your chart. When finished, come back to step 7 and finish the webquest.

7. When your chart is complete, use the rubric below to grade it yourself.


Evaluation

Your chart will be graded according to a rubric. Click on rubric to print a blank . Grade your rubric. Staple your chart on top of your rubric and place it in the homework box on my desk.


Conclusion

You have completed our class webquest entitled "Let There Be Light." Now you should be able to answer the following questions:

1. What is light?

2. How does light travel?

3. How fast does light travel?

4. How straight does light travel?

5. What are the THREE basic ways to control light?

6. What is "White Light?"
